Acer 3002 and DVI

I have one of these laptops and a CTX LCD screen. I recently acquired the
Acer eZDock docking station which has, AOT, a DVI port. However, when I try
to connect my Acer to the LSD screen via a DVI cable, nothing happens. I
also have an Acer LCD screen with dual imput. I can’t drive this either.
When I checked with Acer UK, they said send the units back to them. They
have, they say, replaced the mother board in the laptop and the certainly
replaced the docking station with a completely new one. Didn’t make any
difference – it still won’t drive the screen digitally.

It seems to me to be unlikely that the particular units were faulty and that
the repair/replacements are too. I feel it is more probable that there is a
configuration problem or that this particular combination of kit doesn’t
actually work together. Anybody had any experience of this or a similar
problem? Were you able to solve it? And does it matter much anyway? Is there
a visible difference in quality between the two?

Mysteriously, the laptop detects when a digital device is present and the
graphics option change when it is. Selecting the digital device for output
simply gets me a blank screen which promptly powers down.

Any thoughts anyone?

Screen black, & can't turn Laptop off !

I have a Dell Latitude C610. My hubby says he played a music CD he made
recently & the laptop froze up. He says the CD played OK. He took it
out, laptop still froze, turned it off for a few hours, & when he tried
again, nothing would work. I come home, check it out, the screen is
black, and it’s still warm, & I can’t turn it off. The on light is lit,
the battery light is blinking. I tried unplugging it, but it stayed on
using the battery. Nothing happens when I push the power button.
I know a black screen isn’t a good sign. I’d just like to turn it off &
back on again, that works with my desktop.
What else should I try?

Laptop Needed for editing movies

I am in the market for a laptop. thing is, i am on the road alot and
need a couple hours of battery life. but the reason i need it is for
making movies. (surf and bike films, short movies and eventually
after i take a couple more classes, long films) i am doing all the
editing on this computer and i am also using it for school (microsoft
office, yadda yadda) so im looking to spend a $1000 more or less im
not too sure how much they go for. so if you could point me in the
right direction for the specs to look for and some laptop
recomondations, i’d appreciate it. also how are AMD processors on
battery life? i hear they are good processors but i also need long
battery life. thanks.

INTEL CENTRINO DUO?

I’m curious.  My friend just bought the Acer Travelmate 8204, or
somethin like that, with the new intel chip in it.  It is dual core, is
it not? Doesn’t this make it 64-bit technically, but currently it is
only running 32-bit stuff?  But, we both play Half-Life 2 based games,
and Valve, the company who made them recently released 64-bit versions
of their games.  Wouldn’t he be able to use the 64-bit versions? Some
clarification would be appreciated, thanks.

Can you trust the Intel Core Duo?

Check out this page of a discussions of errors.
I do single step debugging in Borland Builder and
so wonder if it will work still?
And someone said that Delphi programs don’t work
which worries me because Builder is largely based
on Delphi underneath.

Clicks & Pops on USB/Laptop

Hi all,

I got a brand new laptop (Toshiba M40 / Win XP SP2) I want to use with an
USB EDIROL UA-25.
The problem is I get some drops (mostly very short clicks) in audio while
playing, whatever the application (Quicktime, MediaPlayer, Winamp, …).
Did someone actually fixed this issue ?
– BIOS update ?
– USB windows layer update ?
– Is there somewhere in registry where I can change any parameter (buffer
size, latency, …)

CPU seems not to be faulty, as it stays more or less between 0 and 10%.
Also, it looks the problem does happen only while playing.
Recording a file does not bring any problem in the audio datas.

Thanks for any advice.

Old laptop without a use… Ideas?

I have a old laptop it is:
Compaq
32 MB RAM
2GB HD
Intel (I think, unkown speed) not fast anyway….
CD rom
Broken Floppy Drive
Big Screen
PCIMA Slot

What I am asking is what can I do with it, it runs 98 very slow. I have
tried lunix (mandrake, unbuntu, kunbuntu) But none of them detect or
have drivers for the touch pad. Also with 32 MB of ram it dosent get
very far. I jujst recently tried anouther version of lunix called
mephis, it runs on 64 mb of ram I got it installed but it did not run.

So what I am asking is what can I do with this laptop? Is there a
verion of lunix made for slow laptops  or can I use it as a expandable
monitor even if it has no OS?

Any ideas please post!

Please Help: compaq presario notebook hibernation / startup problems…

Hi there,

Im new to this forum so please forgive me being such a noob lol.

Im having problems with a friend’s compaq presario notebook (I cant
remember the model number).  I was asked to set up a wireless network
in thier home which worked like a dream.  I managed to get the internet

working on the notebook fine.  (It uses a USB wifi reciever to pick up
the signal).

However the laptop ran out of battery power and went into hibernation.
I went to start it up with the AC cable in expecting it to come out of
hibernation, instead of going to the usual windows XP user login
screen, it is stuck on what seems like the window’s sutting down
screen.

I tried re-booting it many times, with and without the AC power cable
in but still it wouldnt do it.  When i tried it without the AC to see
if there was enough battery power to at least start up and shut down,
It started up, displayed the usual message that you should watch your
battery power so you dont lose your work (or words to that effect) but
it then still went to what appears to be the shutdown screen.

I tried comparing it with my dell laptop watching carefull as both
start up and it confirmed that indeed it does look like the win xp
shutdown screen.

I wonder if anyone has any idea what the problem could be.  I have been

looking around forums and websites and it seems to confirm that it is
something to do with the power source.  I left the laptop to charge but

my friend called to say that the problem still exists (It could be that

she hasnt left it to charge fully).

So it seems to be that I should try these approaches to see if it
solves the problem:

1) wait for the battery to charge and try switching it on
2) remove battery and see if it runs on AC power alone
3) remove, battery and AC try switching it on to drain all juice out
then put both back in.

or last but not least.. buy a huge alarm clock with hammer attrached to

wake the thing up! lol.

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer
