Updating USB Host Controllers

Hi there.   I have a Sony Vaio laptop which I have recently breathed
new life into by loading XP
(SP 2).

The USB host controller is USB 1, which of course slows down all later
USB 2 devices.

Is there any way of updating the USB host controllers to USB 2 ?

Any info will be gratefully received.

Dell C610 Second Display does not work after closing lid in multi-monitor mode under windows XP SP2

Hello:

I have a Dell Latitude C610 with windows XP service pack 2 installed.

I have the following problem with the multimonitor feature:

Here is what works:
1.  It works fine after booting up for the first time.  i.e. I can
connect a second monitor, and extend my desktop to it (through the
standard windows display settings).
2.  I can subsequently disconnect and reconnect the second monitor and
this causes no problems.  Even if the computer goes on standby and the
lid has not yet been closed, I can resume from the standby in single or
multi- monitor mode with no problems.

Here is what does not work:
The problem I have occurs after I close my laptop lid for the first
time.  When i close the lid, the laptop goes in standby mode.  Then
when I re-open it, windows makes the primary display the external
monitor, and makes my laptop the secondary monitor.  Sometimes, it does
not even turn on my laptop monitor.

Is there a way to force windows to re-recognise the laptop display as
the primary monitor?

I have tried the Fn-F8 key combination to no success.  I have also
tried changing the bios settings for the default display device.

In windows, the option to "set this device as your primary monitor" is
greyed out.

I have no idea how to go ahead.

If someone has had a similar problem and knows how to fix it, then any
help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

rocket.

Using laptops w/ no battery?

Is it possible to use a laptop + AC adapter w/o having a
battery plugged in, or having a dead battery in the laptop?  Since the
battery is a LI-ION battery, doesn’t it have a limited number of
charges, like the Ipods do (400 times).  I was wondering if I should
unplug the battery whenever I can plug my laptop into an electrical
outlet to avoid constantly recharging the battery when it is already
fully charged.

For the record, I have a Gateway MX6030, but the manual
doesn’t cover that case.

Clevo 2700t Service Manual

Hi folks,

Anybody know if there’s a site which still has the Clevo 2700T Service
Manual available? The Clevo site no longer has this as an option.

TIA

Satellite pro 4200

Hi all

I have recently upgraded my Satellite pro 4200 laptop to 320Mb of ram
[maximum motherboard supports] and also Windows XP. However the onboard
soundcard no longer works. XP identifies the Yamaha sound card but the
driver it selects, although reporting that it works, infact it does not.
Anybody had this problem. Or know where I can download the latest Yamaha
driver. Toshiba and Yamaha sites are not that helpfull ?

DELL Inspiron 1300 noise??

Hi,

I’m considering to buy an Inspiron 1300 with the following specs:
Celeron-M 360, 15.4" wide screen, 53Whr battery

The main question I have:
How noisy (air, fan) will this configuration be?, and what will be the
approx. time I can work with a charged 53Whr battery.

My main application will be browsing the WWW, and playing some on-line games
(chess, MahJongg) every now and then. Real video performance is not
important.

My reference is a 3 year-old no-name laptop, with a non-mobile Celeron 1000.
This one is very, very loud (exhaust air and fan), and the CPU temperature
is above 80 C (!)
My other reference is an Inspiron 6000 (15,4 " ws, Celeron 320?). This one
is barely audible……

Summarizing: who has any experience with (fan-) noise with an Inspiron 1300
with Celeron-M 360? Or should I choose a Pentium-M (with speedstep
function)?

Many thanks. Folkert/Holland

(Also posted this question on the DELL website-forum, no reply yet…)
