Hello World,
A few months ago, all of the sudden my laptop refused to boot. Here are
the only messages that are repeated for ever :
Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 081)
For Realtek RTL 8139(8)/8130/810X
PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13 (020326)
PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
As we can read, it tries to boot on the network, which could mean the
hard disk is dead.
The XP recovery cds say ‘no drive’.
I called the french toshiba phone support, they don’t give any advice,
even where the hdd is, only the address of a very expensive repairer (480
euros). Forget Toshiba support. So I bought a new hard drive and it took me
14 hours to find the hard disk (by the way I tell you for free that it is
below the laser drive).
Still I get the same messages !!
Again, the XP recovery cds say ‘no drive’.
Then I tried to install linux and the setup worked (partition, install,
everything) but then…….
Again the same messages !!!
The BIOS sees the hard disk, and of course it is set to boot on the hard
drive.
So, what could it be ?
Thanks for your help, I don’t know what to do, It’s been a month I can’t
use my laptop.

Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 Service Manual
I’ve googled high-and-low, and even bought a CD off Ebay that contains
tons
of Toshiba laptop FRU and Service manuals.
A service and/or FRU manual for the A45-S121 seems to be a very elusive
beast. I have two of these laptops (wife and son each have one), and
I’d
like to be able to disassemble it – at least get most of the cover off.
My previous experience in doing such things with laptops is they can be
tricky, and it makes life a lot easier with a service manual.
I’m not looking for a free-bee – I’ll pay for the bloody
thing, but iced cupcakes to anyone who can point me to a service manual
for the a45-s121.
Thanks,
/jim

TP 770 BIOS problem after CPU upgrade
Greetings all,
I changed out the PI 200MMX CPU card in my 9548-40U TP770, and replaced
it with a PII 266. I get the expected error code 192 and get by it
with the F1 and Esc key sequence. My question is now how do i get into
the BIOS setup config? Holding down the F1 key while turning on does
not get into easy-config anymore, just goes to the error screen. Can i
get to the BIOS set-up while it detects an error 192??? Also, Is there
a way to hack the BIOS to not get the 192 error upon startup?
Thanks,
Joe
increase video memory
Hi, my son who is working in Aus for a few months has just got hold of a
Compaq Presario V2800 1.8ghz with an ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M IGP thats got
32mb of video memory (shared), its also user configurable up to 128mb video
memory.
No instructions on how to do this, anyone got any ideas?
think it might be via the bios but don’t want to give him bad info.
Thanks for any help.

Notebook schaltet sich nach x-Minuten ab
Hallo, NG’s!
Netzteil ohne Akku in Betrieb.
Weil:
Anfangs dachte ich -> Warmluftproblem.
Aber nun mit neuem Kühler und einer Temperatur von etwa 38 Grad sollte
dies kein Problem sein.
Hat jemand einen Verdacht???
Systemkonfiguration:
Targa Visionary P
Model 7521T
Board: MiTac 7521
CPU: Intel P IIIE Coppermine
Chipset: SIS 630
BIOS-Version: Phoenix NoteBIOS v1.01
Danke vorab,
Max

Very slow boot up sequence on older Toshiba Satelklite 2410. Why?
I recently purchased (for my mom) a used Satellite 2410. Before
sending it to her, I uninstalled some programs she won’t need and
installed new ones (McAfee, Spybot, Diskkeeper, Adsubtract, etc.).
When I first got the laptop, it would boot normally (30 – 40 seconds to
get to desktop) but now it takes 5minutes + to boot to the desktop.
Once there however, it seems to work at normal speed. Of course, I
don’t remember exactly at what point, it started doing that so I cannot
associate it with a specific event.
When I bought the laptop, the seller and I quickly looked at the BIOS
but I don’t remember us changing anything and, anyway, I think the
problem started a few days after that. Now I can’t even get in the
BIOS because I don’t know what key (or key combo) he used to get in
there – and no manual).
Any obvious culprits that would cause the boot process to drag? Any
tests or procedures I should try to correct this problem? Right now, I
am considering removing, one by one, the programs that I installed to
see if I can reach a point where the laptop boots up normally. I also
deleted some Toshiba utilities which I tought were useless: I hope
none of them were important. I may download them from Toshiba WEB site
and re-install them just in case.
Other ideas, suggestions or comments would be most welcome as I am
hoping to fix and ship this in the next day or two so that it gets
there before Xmas! Cheers! Andre
