Please help.  On my Dell Inspiron 1000, the audio has become wavy and
inconsistent.  It’s not noticeable if I just listen to the regular
Windows noises, but when I play music (on Winamp; Windows Media Player;
etc., doesn’t matter which) The sound will fade in and out slightly,
get louder and softer throughout a song.  It’s kind of subtle, but
extremely noticeable to me.  The same thing happens if I plug in
headphones or external speakers.  It’s definately not a speaker
problem- Dell tried replacing them already to no avail.  A diagnostic
scan reveals no problems.  Any suggestions/advice?

I’ve tried about everything to bypass the password of my former toshiba
tecra 8100 laptop.
I really forgot it.  (I didn’t use it for a long time because of some errors
with tbe screen.)
I’ve searched the internet and tried the parallel loopback.
Checked the connections over and over but somehow it doesn’t work.
I would like to give the notebook to my daughter!
Does somebody have a suggestion.

which is the fastest way to transfer data from Desktop PC to Laptop, USB or
firewire cable.  Intend tranfering 350 MB avi or mpeg files at a time.

They dont need help but I do.
I dont know how to setup the 4 digit hardware lock (5 keys on the front
panel) on my Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook.
The manual says that I should have software for that on my computer but I
dont.
Any ideas anybody?

This computer was recently given to me. I would like to upgrade the
hard drive but the Sony website says HD upgrades are not supported. It
originally has a 4.3GB. Any idea what the max capacity HD is that will
be recognized by the BIOS?

I’d also like to put in a DVD-ROM or combo drive and upgrade the
processor if possible. I believe any DVD-ROM drive will work but the
processor might be a problem. The only one I’m fairly sure will work is
the PII 366 from the same series laptop. I’d like to hear from anyone
who has done any upgrades to a PCG-F150/160/180/190 laptop.

Hi all,

I’ve been having a problem getting my laptop to POST lately.  I turn on
the power and hear the fan, HD spin up, etc but no POST screen.  For a
while and doing some playing around with it, I would get it to post and
boot into Windows XP by switching the single memory SODIMM from one
slot to the other.  Then one day while working my machine just went to
black screen and shut off. The switching trick no longer works.  I’m
guessing that my memory is no good but I’m not so sure.  Any ideas?

I am a little bit worried with this new Partition Magic 8 I bought as
to whether in can handle partitoning of NTFS systems like Win/xp
also on External hard drives like the Maxtor one touch

Interested in knowing if you have an IBM Thinkpad with XP installed,
can you make it dual boot with Linux?
I’m confused because I’m not sure you get the XP Pro disks with the
Thinkpad.
And if technically you can do it without affecting XP, as I saw in a
magazine,
will the Thinkpad allow it?

I have a six month old laptop with XP home. If I press the power button to
shut down (set for shut down in the power options) it does nothing. Same
goes for Start/shut down. Any ideas aside from reinstalling?
