Who knows maybe LENOVO will upstage Bill Gates and MS by coming out
with a new PC that has its OS entirely in a programmable ROM chip.
You know the drop in and latch type.   After that the anti-virus
software systems will go broke.  They might call it Windows XS
(windows extra strong).   Then all one would need to so when
an upgrade is done would be to unlatch the old one, drop in the
new one and relatch it and voila the upgrade is completed and
your ready to go.  Since no virus can write itself into your
system with its system in ROM  wow what a dream I am haveing.

I was just in Singapore looking at the crop of latest note-laps, and in one shop
several Toshiba models on display had extremely crisp, sharp, lovely, etc.
screen displays. The store person, while passing his sesimic wand over my
wallet, was making noises about double-backlighting which I thought was only
done in the Cirque de Soleil.

Did I see some technically improved screens using a new backlighting technique,
or did I just see some demo displays tweaked by somebody who knew what they were
doing to make those Toshibas look very good under store lighting conditions ?

And, no, I was not smoking anything. And, no, I don’t work for Toshiba or own a
Toshiba anything else or stock.

My Dell Latitude CPi PII-400 will not boot if I have a battery installed or
charge a batttery after it is running.  I’ve ruled out the battery through
substitutions.  I’m running XP and have latest bios updates.  Any
suggestions?

I’m going backpacking around australia later this year and i am after a
laptop as i need to support a couple of websites for some customers.

I’ve decided that a 12′ screen just isnt going to be big enough as i
want to run visual studio on it. Also i dont see many 12′ laptops
screened laptops that have a PCMCIA slot.

The ideal laptop MUST have a strong lid, and be able to take some
knocks. It also needs to have a decent battery life.. with also having
extended batteries available.

Obviously i want one that it reasonably light, so anything below 2.5kg
(6lbs) is ok to look at.

It also needs PCMCIA slot so i can fit a GPRS card in it.

The laptops i am currently looking at are the Dell Latitude D610 and
the IBM T42/T43..

Whats best to go for??

I have a Satellite with Win 98 and the Accupoint mouse doesn’t work.
Tried to install the driver, but it didn’t work. Does anyone have a
suggestion?

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40x laptop and it states that it has a quick
play feature that enables users to perform CD & DVD playback without booting
to windows.
I cant seem to get this to work and the "users manual" isn’t much help.
Any suggestions.

In my desktop PC I have a spare Hard drive that I connect up (internally)
and boot from a floppy and ghost my main hard drive. This way if I ever have
any problems I just install the backup drive as master drive and boot from
that. It has to be the easiest back up solution around.
I now have a new laptop and was wondering the easiest way to do the same
thing with this.
As the laptop doesn’t have a floppy I don’t know how you could boot from a
ghost boot disk (can you boot from a CD with GHOST)
Also you cant exactly upon up the case  on a laptop and connect up another
drive so any suggestions on backup media

I was recently running System Mechanic 5 on my Fujitsu Amilo laptop and
i think i inadvertently deleted some system files (why the software
lets me do this i have no idea), and I am now receiving this error "An
exception occurred while trying to run FLDCLNR.dll, WIZARD_RunDLL".
This happens every time i re-boot but while i am accessing different
folders in Windows Explorer my screen continually freezes and i have to
physically switch off the maching. Can anyone explain what is happening
and what on earth I can do to stop this occurring? Thanks to anyone who
can stop me going eventually mad with a fix for this!

I think I need to re-load Windows XP on my laptop, can anyone tell me
what and how to backup/restore my Outlook files, or tell me where I can
find this information? Thanks

I have a toshiba satellite pro with 40 megs of ram and a 1044 meg hard
drive. It says when it statrs up windows has dected an error in your
registry/configuration file run scanreg. I run scanreg and it does
nothing for a few mins. Then it load the C:> promp right over the
screen I run scanreg again does the same I run scanreg/restroe does the
same.

Then I put a 841 meg hard drive in the computer and it says this

The File Win.com is msiing or corrupted

The file command.com file is missing or corupted
Tupe the name of the command interpeter I.E. C/windows.command .com

I type C:/windows/command.com and it repeats it message and somebody
says type fdsik/mbr and i do it and it says

The file fdsik/mbr is missing or corupted(then it says the type the
name… message.

I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!

Oh nad by the way almost verey floppy disk i put in wheter its new or
not it says
