Disk Error

I have a Magellan GPS color which came with a two disk map send direct
route.

I have the maps stored on my laptop.

For some reason, when I put disk two in and try to run the disk it says
there is a disk error.

It worked fine the last time I used it.

Anyway to fix this problem?

HP zd8000 vs Fujitsu Lifebook n6010

Can anyone who has actually used one of these notebooks share their
experience?  These two are the only ones I’ve found (I’m not a Compaq fan)
with the built-in numpad which is what I’m looking for.  Weight isn’t an
issue.  Both are almost identical in standard features with very similar
customization options.  The HP allows for some nicer (to me) options though.

I’ve looked at reviews on cnet, pctoday & pcmag as well as various google
search returns but have found nothing very detailed.

The HP zd8000 gets great reviews (weight aside) but then I found one that
said they get way too hot both on the bottom and at the palm rest area even
with that 3rd fan.  I also managed to track down a picture of the bottom of
this machine and it looks a bit off-putting with its 3 fans and other doors.

I haven’t been able to locate a picture of the bottom of the Lifebook n6010
to see if its a smooth bottom or bumpy/cratery like the HP appears.  I
haven’t read anything negative about this one but then I’ve barely found
anything at all on it to begin with.

Since none of the stores in my area have either of these machines on the
shelf for physical inspection I’m having to rely on anyone who has, or knows
someone who has, one of these models.  TIA.

Samsung V20

Hi, i have a samsung v20 from a friend to see if i can make it any
better, it currently does everything its supposed to,i just put in an
extra 512mb of memory and it made it a lot nicer to use!, however
graphically, i find it is a bit disapointing, i’m under the
impression there is no way to upgrade the graphics on it, however if
there is i will be glad if someone would tell me what can be
changed!

the person who owns it doesn’t really like desktop computers, however
she does play games on it, well, the sims 2, with the extra memory it
took down the loading times from sometimes insanely high 12 minutes to
sensisble times of less than a minute or so, but the graphics are
still a bit jerky, next to the memory slots i noticed to the right
there seemed to be some kind of removable card, i was also wondering
what it was, the manual doesn’t seem to say

thanks for any replys!, also if it is impossible to do anything with
the graphics, is it possible to upgrade it with a more capable
motherboard?, i’m guessing not really, but its a really nice laptop,
works fine, its fast, battery isn’t very good but its always used
plugged in anyway, its not essential but if anything can be done
would be appricated!, thanks.

Inspiron Memory Problem

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m running XP, and it has a problem with
memory.

It has 2×256 MB SODIMMs (PC2100 DDR). When one SODIMM is installed,
there are no problems.

However, when I install a second SODIMM, the additional memory is
detected, XP starts fine, but then it blue screens (usually
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error) within 5 minutes. Upon reboot, the bios
encounters a memory error and then adjusts itself automatically to use
only one SODIMM. Reseating the memory causes it to detect the other
SODIMM, and the problem repeats.

I have tried swapping out each of the SODIMMs with another SODIMM that
is compatible with the same result. All three of my SODIMMs work fine
when used by themselves, but it always fails when using a second
SODIMM.

Therefore, I assume that the problem is not with the memory modules,
but rather with memory management on the motherboard. Anyone know how
to go about fixing this type of problem (without installing a new
motherboard)?

Thanks,
-Jeff

Compaq Presario 2700 bootup problem

Hi everyone, I have a Compaq Presario 2700US which is giving me a big
headache. For some reason sometimes it won’t boot up. Actually it
just does not turn on the screen but won’t work with an external
monitor either. The cdrom starts reading and everything but the
screen… of course it won’t get to the OS start up but it does not
freeze… it powers off normally when I press the power button.

I did try the power drain following the these instructions given by HP
technitians with no luck:
1. Disconnect AC power.
2. Disconnect laptop battery.
3. Press power button in the laptop for 20 seconds (or 1 minute).
4. Connect AC power (not battery).
5. Check whether the laptop powers up.

I also tried to clearing the CMOS but nothing changed.

Any ideas?

How to disable internal wireless on Thinkpad T30 (2366-92U)?

I can’t figure out how to do it! I had assumed this would be a BIOS
setting, but I don’t see it anywhere.

Wireless Button problems

Hei hei,
I have accidentally deleted the Launch Manager from my Systemax laptop
and cannot find anywhere to download it from and re-install it. It is
the software that controls the hotkeys, most of which I don’t require
but the wireless button is very important. The laptop is a Systemax
with the buttons on the left side. Appreciate all your help.

Wi-fi Antenna?

I have a Dell Latitude D600 with an internal Wi-Fi.  There is a public
access point that is just a little too far from my house to reach.

Is there a way to increase my reception?

Adding after-market RAM

Is this an easy task to accomplish?  Would you recommend bringing it to
a certified technician to do?  Does it invalidate warranty?

I’m thinking about getting a T-42 Thinkpad, and putting in some extra
RAM on my own.  Advice is greatly appreciated.
