Cleaning convertible screen

Hi All,

I’ve got a slight twist to the ‘How best to clean the LCD display?’

I am using an Averatec C3500 convertible. The manual says just to
use a dry soft cloth. Well I have had the machine for more than a
month, and the dry cloth is just not cutting it.

Is there any cleaner that is safe to use on the display.

BTW, I have been using the laptop with my Garmin eTrex Legend GPS,
and I am impressed by how readable the screen is even in sunny
conditions.

Ciao . . . C.Joseph

upgrading optical drive on Toshiba M35X?

Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone out there has upgraded
the optical drive in the Toshiba M35X or similar?

I have discovered that newegg.com sells a dual-layer
DVD writer for the Toshiba laptops that is an OEM
part from Toshiba.

Here is the part:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-130-018&…

Lots of mail-order places are selling it, actually.

My question is, has anyone learned how to open
the M35X to properly install this drive?
And did you get it to work properly?

Thanks.
Yib

HP Pavilion xt4316WM..battery messing w/ keyboard???

Ok, so my keyboard was not working very good, it’d miss key strokes
…I went to look at my battery’s model # and pulled it out. Ok, now my
KB works.
What the hec??

Any ideas??

it’s a xt4316wm (walmart special hehe, a compaq in pav skin basically)
it’s been really great for 2 years, it’s showing age but im gonna fix
it up w/ ram and hopefully figure out this weird issue with the
kb/battery. I just gave it a new 60gig drive so far. Love this thing.

should i get a new battery? the gauge on the side shows nothing, it’s
dead-doesnt charge any more and the orange light flashes all the time
with or w/out battery installed.

Any advice is appreciated, im pretty good with laptops, this is my 3rd!

HP dv1000 or Sony S360

I’m torn between the HP dv1000 and the Sony S360.  The former clearly
represents much better value, but the latter is such a sleek machine that it
makes the decision more difficult.  (Amongst other things, I’ll be using one
or the other machines to exploit Dragon Naturally Speaking with a USB mike.)

Anybody here used either or both units for an extended period?  If so, your
thoughts would be much appreciated.

One concern I have about the dv1000 is noise coming from the hard-drive.
I’d be especially grateful for any thoughts or recommendations concerning
this potential problem, and how it might be circumvented.

Bootable Flash Drive

Recently purchased an external cdrom cdrw that doesnt seem to boot from
recovery cds.

Is there a download that could fix this?

Also, rather than using cds. I operate a Sony Vaio computer with a
PCMCIA, memory stick slot, and two USB.

Looking to create a bootable memory stick using the slot instead of
external cd.

Anyone with expierence with the Phoenix BIOS to enable the option under
the external option or use a flash drive through USB to boot from?

Thanks

phoneix firstware

Ive heard that there no longer is a need for recovery cds with new
laptops as there is a hidden partition that completes this.

Also, I see the $30. product thats available to buy. Is there an option
for users of older laptops using the OS Win Me to use to enable similar
features?

Thanks

Thinkpad (Intel(R) 82801CAM LPC Interface Controller – 248C)

would some kind person point me in the right direction on an "Unknown
device" on a Thinkpad T23

it shows in properties as "Intel(R) 82801CAM LPC Interface Controller –
248C" but I can not seem to located the proper driver for it

this condition exists in three(3) operating systems, 3 T23 laptops, XP Pro,
Win 2003 and Win 2000
(yes, you can run Windows 2003 just fine on Thinkpad T23)

I’ve installed the IBM "C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\PkgMgr\PkgMgr.exe" and it
supposedly has no more recommendations for this Thinkpad or new software to
configure

what is this "LPC Interface controller" ?
