WANT LAPTOP WITH TERM

About the cheapest DOS machine that would fit your bill is the Tandy 1100FD.  It can be had  by mail for $700-$800, has an optional internal 24000 baud model ($200 or so), comes with DOS 3.3, Tandy’s DeskMate text editor and spell-checker in rom (the rest of the deskmate software comes with the computer on floppies).  The 80×25 screen isn’t backlit, but is the brightest non-backlit screen you have ever seen.  One 3.5" 720K drive, 640K ram.  Try the MaryMac store in CompuServe’s Electronic Mall, or Fort Wor

th Computers. <STS>

REBIND CAPS-LOCK TO CONTROL? (TA

I use a Tandy 1100 and have the CONTROL key swapped with the CAPS LOCK key via a tiny software program called IBMFIX.COM.  This is one of the PC Magazine utility programs available on CompuServe.  Type GO PCMAGNET and go to the utility library. <STS>

query on Tandy WP-2

The Tandy WP-2 looks to be a possible low-cost word processor laptop,
except for a couple of major flaws that were pointed out in the Feb. 90
Byte (page 176): file transfers are impossible at speeds greater than
1200bps, and characters are dropped if the input is too fast (either
over the RS232 port or from the keyboard).

So it looks like I can’t use this machine to write while on the road,
and then dump to my host computer over a 9600 baud line.

Can anyone confirm whether the review in Byte is correct?  Local Tandy
people are not much help on this question.

Re: Adding floppies to a Turbosport 386

I am trying to help a friend add a 5.25" floppy drive to a Turbosport 386. He
has the expansion chassis, and I am now faced with the choice of either buying
an expensive drive and adapter card from Zenith, of finding a floppy card that
will work with the Zenith Bios. I assume that I must use an alternate address
for the card so that it doesn’t conflict with the internal floppy.  HAs anyone
out there in netland done this without using official Zenith hardware?
Thanks in advance!

Stop cursor blink? (Tandy 1100FD/Kermit)

Well, I now have a short program to turn caps-lock into control, per
my last request, thanks to the net.

How can I get Kermit to quit blinking the cursor?  I know it can alternate
between block and underscore…can I turn off the blink?

Suitable for IBM PC & compat. computers.

Someone skilled with disks could

For the recreational computer
hobbiyst, or EE who enjoys tinkering.

Best offer gets it.

Speech output from a laptop

What I’m after is a laptop with speech output capabilities.

I’ve just learnt about the new Psion machines, but can anybody fill me in on
others that provide speech output?  I’m told that you can plug a speech card
into a portable PC compatible, does anyone have any experience with this?

What I want to do is be able to write software to do speech synthesis from
keyboard input.  (Does this already exist for a laptop?)  The reason for
the world-wide survey is that I’d like the resulting software to be usable
by as many people as possible.

Thanks,

Tony Robinson (a…@eng.cam.ac.uk)
